Monaco take-aways ….. (and I am not talking about a $100 pizza!)

When most people think of Monaco, they think of superyachts (see below), casinos and parties.  In fact, Monaco is a really practical venue for conferences, because most of Monaco can be reached easily within about 10-15 minutes on foot, and generally most people are in a good mood.

Around 20 years ago was the first time I attended the FundForum conference in Monaco; I was working at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers and our team arrived by helicopter from Nice airport.  Of course we did.  We had decided we were all important enough - and justified to our bosses at the time that with the price of taxis it was a close call….  Last week, I took the bus.  And the bus was great value (and in reality more comfortable).  That says a lot about how our industry has changed, because not long after those helicopter flights, the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) struck.  In some respects, the world is still dealing with the aftershocks of that crisis.
