Freedom Calls: 17/8/26, “What does the rest of 2026 hold in store.... and how are we positioned?"

Last week was another good week to be invested.  As we wrote last week, volatility is your (unlikely) friend - and markets have settled down for now.  As I look at the performance numbers below, I am happy that all our private wealth public markets funds are performing well, and in line with their respective risk budgets.  But there are still 4.5 months left this year, so we will unpick what we think lies ahead.  

As you can see above, it was another good weekend to visit Guernsey’s beautiful south coast bays and crystal clear waters: See Petit Port (L) and a cove near Moulin Huet (R).  Guernsey has had a good summer - not only in terms of the weather, but now it can be reached year-round with British Airways on a proper plane from Heathrow’s T5, making it British Airways’ shortest official flight time from London in only 33 minutes.

I must say it has been a lot of fun to be based in the Guernsey office for much of the last 5 weeks -  and the good weather really helps!  I am also surprised at how Guernsey has changed this year; strangely enough, a whole influx of "50-something" British entrepreneurs have decided that those south coast beaches are a little more enticing than staying at home and paying (1) capital gains tax, (2) inheritance tax and (3) ever larger personal income taxes - and (4) a possible “exit" tax.  As decisions go, it is not the hardest one to figure out.  Guernsey has low income tax and virtually no crime.  That is not as good as the UAE at zero (on both counts), but a helpful piece of the global wealth residency puzzle for successful Brits abroad - especially if you need to pop back to the UK regularly, or at short notice.
